... I'm angry.
There is something seriously wrong with the mindset of some British citizens, especially that seem to be floating around within my networks on everyone's favourite social networking site. I am ridiculously disgusted by the amount of times I have read an image of some text (from the BNP, this immediately screams "IDIOT" at me, with a big ol' flashing red light above the poster's head.) about letting immigrants into our beautiful country before helping out our own, and how many times that I have read about people disagreeing with people donating money to Comic Relief to help those in Africa.
The first thing that worries me is how these commentators are openly displaying their dismay without having any justification. If you can argue your point appropriately and informatively without swearing or name-calling, then fair enough, do your thing and I will listen to you. But to everyone who blames our country's issues on immigrants do not have a leg to stand on.
Secondly, what is wrong with helping those in other countries? Are you xenophobic or just racist?
I'm going to apologise for my poor writing as I've started writing this in blind anger.
I just cannot understand why people cannot open their eyes and see that a life is a life. Why shouldn't we help people in other countries if it means we'll be saving lives?
And not all immigrants are bad people, my father is an immigrant and has given a lot to this country, worked for the NHS and paid a lot more tax than a lot of the British people who want to 'send everyone back home'. Many of the nation's favourite sporting stars and celebrities are immigrants - yet there seems to be no issue with these people and this is what makes me think that it is pure ignorance.
This BNP photo that is circulating also pinpoints how we are 'neglecting' sectors of society in favour of those who are 'foreign'. What they seem to ignore is the fact that there are many services to help the people that they have highlighted - the homeless, war veterans, the disabled - and if they cared about them so much, maybe they should spend their time volunteering or directing people to these services instead of sharing a bigoted opinion which simply does not make sense.
People need to be educated, I just find it awfully distressing that people cannot just see people as people and life as life. Unfortunately, I just think I'm going have to grit my teeth, as right now I feel as though as I am in a minority of people who can accept diversity and help those in need.
