A 5 Star Weekend

Last weekend, I was lucky enough to be treated to a 2 day break in London.

Samuel is fanatical about bikes and upon hearing him about The London Outdoor Show 2013, I knew where we would be going. But I wasn't just going to go without putting up a fight. I was only going to go to this show on a set of conditions;

  • We go sight-seeing,
  • We go for a tasty meal,
  • Sam promises to accompany me to a cooking/food show at some point in the near-ish future.
Well conditions 1 and 2 got a great big tick in the box when we were in London. I've never been sight-seeing in London before (as far as I can recall), so Sam took me on a tour of a few iconic places. We stood in the snow and shared half a pulled pork burrito, street food style, in Southbank. It was delicious - a real shame you had to pay extra for the guacamole though, bit stingy if you ask me! And after we did out touristy bit, we stopped in one of our favourite places to eat - Herman Ze German. I had a perfect Bockwurst (pork) with chips and the freshest apple juice you will ever taste, imported from Germany. Sam had a Bratwurst (pork and veal) and opted for a German cola made with a natural plant sweetner.

Oh yeah!

No news of the food show yet but I'm sure plans will be made as soon as I find one!

So we explored London, took photos and spent a substantial amount of time in M&M World. Where I met my slightly more chocolate-y counterpart...

Spitting image!

The outdoors/bike show was good, there was lots to see but having no idea about bikes made it slightly confusing for me. There was loads of freebies, which is always a bonus and we managed to see a couple of great bike shows, starring Martyn Ashton (who Sam is extremely happy to have met!) blowing us away with tricks on a road bike! (Now even I know that that is beyond impressive.)

Now, here was the absolute deal-clincher. When Sam asked me if I'd ever stayed in a 5* hotel. The answer was no, but now I can say I have! We stayed in the Hilton Hotel in London Bridge and wow, the bed was comfortable! And the breakfast, so much food, in variety and quantity, it was a struggle for me to get to the Outdoor show!

Sam, looking a little bit chilly!

Chinatown was great!
Pretending to soak up some culture at the theatre. We didn't go, but it's on my to-do list!
A cute little snowman we found on the way back to the hotel

Thank you so much, Sam!
