How to Motivate Yourself and Why

This is a message to myself, my friends (one in particular who probably won't read this) and to anyone facing a challenge.
Those of you who know me well will know that I have had a very long-term on and off relationship with weight loss. It's definitely love-hate. I love to eat and I bloody hate to exercise. I know I need to do it but I just don't want to.
I'm starting to realise that you've got to do shit to get shit done. It doesn't matter if you don't like it. Do it.
Do the washing up. Wake up early. Write your essays. Go on a walk.
Let me attempt to explain what I mean in a less aggressive and less vague manner. Fast forward to November 2013, just after my graduation ceremonies - What do I want to be doing; trying to get the sympathy vote when I'm explaining to people why I only got a third? Or describing how I managed to kick uni's arse whilst juggling a million other things? I know which one I'd like to be doing.
Today I started getting shit done. I went to uni, I sorted through a rather large pile of job application forms, and went on a 3 mile walk and I definitely feel better for it.
It's funny, when we're growing up we're supposed to do as we are told, but as soon as we are grown-up we're told to "do whatever makes you happy" - I think we need to strike a balance. We should do what is good for us. Eating nothing but bacon sandwiches and Nutella straight from the jar would make me extremely happy, but I'd soon be too obese to walk.
I think for once, I will take my own advice and do what is good for me. I'm sure that when I'm doing good, I'll be feeling even better.
